Big Band Ribe
Byens egen stolthed Big Band Ribe er et fast indslag i jazzfestivalen. I år får bandet fornøjelsen at indlede festivalens musikalske løjer fredag på domkirkepladsens store scene. Bandets repertoire udspringer af
traditionel bigbandmusik som for eksempel Count Basie og Frank Sinatra, men tæller også numre i blues, latin, swing og gospel.
Big Band Ribe startede som Ribes Mindste Bigband i september 1989 som et otte mand stort aftenskolehold, men er siden vokset til et fuldt besat bigband, organiseret som en selvstændig amatørmusiker-forening.
Siden bandets optræden under sidste års festival er der skiftet ud på dirigentposten. Lea Regitze Nielsen står nu i spidsen for Big Band Ribe, som består af 19 jazzelskende medlemmer, fordelt på trompeter,
tromboner, saxofoner, rytmegruppen med trommer, bas, guitar og klaver samt bandets helt egen crooner: Terkel Michelsen – direkte fra Gørding.

Big Band Ribe
The pride of the town, Big Band Ribe, is a recurring event at the Ribe Jazz Festival. This year, the band has the pleasure of kicking off the festival on the cathedral square’s big stage. The band’s repertoire stems from traditional big band music such as Count Basie and Frank Sinatra, however, also including Blues, Latin, Swing and Gospel. Big Band Ribe started as “The Smallest Bigband in Ribe” in September 1989. An evening school group og eight members whic has since grown into a fully-fledged big band organized as an independent amateur musician’s association. Since the band’s performance at last year’s festival, the conductor has been replaced by Lea Regitze Nielsen wo is now at the helm of Big Band Ribe. The band consists of 19 jazz-loving members divided between trumpets, trombones, saxophones, the rhythm section with drums, bass, guitar and piano, as well as the band’s very own crooner: Terkel Michelsen – straight from the nearby town of Gørding.
